Parental Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 2003-2004 school year at Fayette County High School. As the parent of a student in band, color guard, and majorettes we welcome you as a members of the FCHS Band Boosters. We are the group that supplies the labor and funds that enable our band to have the excellent opportunities of travel, competition, uniforms, and an enhanced quality music program. The School Board provides us with the band directors, the band room, and many of the instruments that our students play. All the rest is paid for through the paid band fees and through fundraisers that we as volunteer parents supply the efforts and labor that make this program function successfully.

We hold monthly meetings in the band room that will serve to keep you updated on current events concerning the FCHS band program. We host an informative web site at that will provide you with a calendar and postings of current events and photographs of events that you can download for your personal use. We utilize E-mail as a means of communication to all students and parents. Please be sure we have your current E-mail address or if you are not on the Internet a telephone number where we can reach you. The FCHS Band Boosters Executive Board is there to help you with any questions and concerns. A full listing of the officers is on the contact page on our web site.

There are numerous opportunities to participate in your childs band experience. We need chaperones for away games and competitions, people to man the uniform room before and after football games, a crew to transport and move equipment on and off the football field, and ongoing projects to improve our practice field and equipment bus.

Fundraisers are divided into two categories. The first is the opportunity to sell items throughout the year and the profits go towards your childs student account. We also operate a concession stand at the Hi Fi Buys Amphitheater and your portion of the profits from this go into your students account. All individual fundraising is voluntary. Many parents have found they can cover the entire cost of Marching Band by participating in these events.

The second category encompasses functions that bolster the general band account. In this category are the events that really make the difference in the quality of our band program. Some examples are the concession stands at home games and events, The Miss Pride Pageant, the Golf Tournament, the Lafayette Classic, and the Air Show. These funds go towards the salaries for instructors, band camp, music, drill charts, purchasing uniforms, and equipment as well as enabling our band directors to participate in conferences that help them to give our children the quality band program FCHS is so well known for. Participating in general band fundraisers earn credits to offset students fees. See fee structure guidelines for full details.

On the page attached please find a listing of the areas where parental help is needed. Sign up for as many areas as you can to join with us in making 2003-2004 the best year yet for the FCHS Tiger Band. Just turn it in with your other paperwork and your name will be given to the committee chairperson who will be contact you with dates and details. We will also have sign up sheets at each Band Boosters Meeting so that once you see how rewarding and fun it is to be involved you can sign up for more!

We look forward to working with you,

The FCHS Band Boosters Executive Board
