University of South Carolina
Band Director Symposium
The FCHS Wind Ensemble performed at Koger Hall atthe
University of South Carolina on Saturday, February 21, 2004 for the USC Band
Clinic. Several hundred students and Band Directors were in attendance
for the Band Clinic and in the audience as the FCHS Band performed.
The music that the FCHS Band selected was a challenging program, but one
geared to be interesting to a young audience. The music was very difficult,
serious and enjoyable.

2002
The FCHS Wind Ensemble performed a
concert for the National Band Association and the Southern Division of
the College Band Director's National Association. The concert was held
at the Clayton County Arts Center on February 20. This is a rare
opportunity for a High School Band to perform in such a venue.
Dr. Donald Hunsberger,
Conductor of the Eastman School of Music Wind Ensemble, was guest conductor
for the program. He directed "Irish Tune from
County Derry"
and "Shepard's Hey" by the
English composer, Percy Granger. The concept of the wind ensemble was
originated at the Eastman School of Music by Dr. Fredrick Fennell, and 2002
marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of this medium of performance.
Dr. Hunsberger is retiring this year, and the FCHS Wind Ensemble experienced
a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to perform under his baton.
Congratulations to Mr. Beard and all
the members and parents!
